NBGI Releases State of the Bobwhite 2022

It’s been a long and arduous three-year period for the newly coined National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative (NBGI). From three retirements in key leadership positions, to the Office of Inspector General audit findings, to switching homes to Clemson University, few collaboratives could weather that perfect storm. Did I mention COVID-19, by the way? Solving complex challenges virtually took our technology and resolve to a whole new level. We endeavored to persevere. We have turned a corner and are getting back to the job of tackling one of the profession’s greatest challenges—restoring grassland habitat for
northern bobwhite and a host of other societal benefits.

State of the Bobwhite 2022 is a range-wide snapshot of the population, hunting, and conservation status of the northern bobwhite, as well as features on various projects of interest around the core bobwhite range. About NBGI

Headquartered at Clemson University’s College of Agriculture Forestry and Life Sciences, NBGI is a science and habitat-based initiative of the National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative Technical Committee (NBGI-TC) to elevate bobwhite quail recovery from an individual state-by-state proposition to a coordinated, range-wide leadership endeavor to restore wild bobwhites on a landscape scale. The committee is comprised of representatives of 25 state wildlife agencies, various academic research institutions and private conservation organizations. Support for NBGI is provided by the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Program, 25 state wildlife agencies, the Joe Crafton Family Endowment for Quail Initiatives, Clemson University, Roundstone Native Seed, and Park Cities Quail.
