Bryan Brasher with The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, TN examines habitat loss and its impact on once common birds in the Mid-South in “Wings and a Prayer: Habitat Loss Takes Toll on Some Common Birds.” 

Writes Brasher: “Every discussion about the decline of common bird species seems to begin and end with the northern bobwhite quail. Quail have declined more than any bird in the nation since 1967. They also top the state lists in Arkansas and Mississippi, and they rank second behind only the loggerhead shrike in Tennessee.”
